The Erechtheion

The Erechtheion, to the left of the Parthenon, contains the famous Caryatid sculptures, six women who support the roof on the south side....... according to Lets Go guide to Greece. These are replicas, the originals are in the Acropolis museum.

The Acropolis means a sacred hill where all the religious buildings are constructed. The time is around 400 BC. This view shows the six Ionic columns, the six women being on the left side of this picture. Like the Parthenon, this is also an ancient Greek temple. This has been restored while work is still being done to the Parthenon. Do you know how to distinguish between Ionic, Doric or Corinthian columns?
